Position - Professor in Embedded Software and Computer Engineering

École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) is one of the largest engineering schools in Canada, with a student body numbering over 10,700, including 2,800 students at the graduate and postgraduate levels, and nearly 600 in Ph.D. programs. The ÉTS Electrical Engineering Department (Montréal, Canada) is seeking a professor in embedded software and computer engineering. The candidate’s research activities will be coupled with existing programs, and will strengthen the strategic research expertise in embedded software of the Electrical Engineering Department. The candidate will have the opportunity to join one of the four research laboratories of the department: LACIME, GREPCI, LATIS and LASSENA.

Areas of expertise sought
Candidates are required to have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

•    Embedded software;
•    Real-time embedded systems;
•    Internet of things (IoT);
•    Artificial intelligence (AI);
•    Hardware-software co-design;
•    Aerospace applications.

Description of position

The candidates sought will:

  • Teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in one or more of the above-mentioned fields;
  • Mentor graduate students;
  • Carry out funded or contractual interdisciplinary research projects, jointly with industry and in work places;
  • Develop a research program;
  • Publish scientific articles;
  • Complete grant applications, particularly those directed at NSERC and FQRNT.

Qualification requirements

  • Must hold a doctorate (Ph.D.) in engineering (electricity, computer engineering or equivalent). Be specialized in Computer Engineering;
  • Must be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), or take the necessary steps to become one before applying for tenure;
  • Must have industry experience or experience conducting research in close collaboration with industry (if the candidate does not have related industry experience, then such experience may be substituted by solid R&D experience, or the candidate must agree to acquire such experience through an industrial practicum);
  • Must demonstrate excellent research and teaching skills. Professional experience or solid R&D experience would be an asset;
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken French in accordance with the ÉTS Language Policy or demonstrate a willingness to learn French and embark on a francization process supported by ÉTS.

Winter or Summer 2018

Salary and terms
This is a tenure-track position. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
