Numérix Laboratory is a research unit specialized in organization engineering, notably the digital transformation of organizations. Numérix focuses on three overarching research initiatives:

  • Designing and optimizing sustainable supply chains in order to address the challenges related to sustainable development and circular economy operationalization.
  • Designing innovative organizations, such as digital enterprises, as well as supporting their transformation process.
  • Designing ideation processes that foster the generating of innovative ideas within people and teams, and that apply systematic creative engineering methods such as TRIZ, ASIT and C-K.

Based on a systematic and integrative approach, Numérix Laboratory strives to undertake research and development pertaining to methodologies, models, skills and tools for optimizing the configuration and integrated management of organizational activities. A coherent coordination of people, technologies and processes is required for improving organization performance. The research unit focuses primarily on manufacturing and service organizations in the context of digital transformation, sustainable development and innovation.

Researchers of the Numérix Laboratory work on applied problems provided by industrial partners, partners that operate across a wide range of sectors (manufacturing, aeronautics, health, construction, forestry, etc.). Through these partnerships, the researchers develop innovative solutions both from technical and theoretical perspectives. Research projects that are funded by various funding agencies (NSERC, MITACS, etc.) are also conducted.

Research projects related to NSERC's Discovery Grants program, MITACS, etc. or to those of other grants agencies providing funding to professors who are members, are also undertaken in the laboratory. The faculty members that participate in the Numérix Laboratory are involved in other initiatives aiming at supporting the digital transformation of enterprises and organizations:

  • 4.0 Hub
  • Innovation 4.0 Network
  • Siemens Industrial Chair on Industry 4.0 Technology Integration

Within the Numérix Laboratory, students, both undergraduates and graduates, and post-doctoral researchers will be able to apply their know-how on projects that tackle core industrial challenges. Additionally, the Numérix Laboratory is equipped with technologies dedicated to product design, operations planning, simulation, optimization, life cycle analysis, etc. to allow students and trainees to use advanced digital tools related sustainable development, digital transformation and innovation.
