ÉTS honoured by the CNESST

ETS were recognized for its achievement in the Innovation category

October 24, 2017
On September 21, the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST – Occupational standards, equity, health and safety board) honoured ÉTS and six other winners in the Montréal region with the Grands Prix santé et sécurité du travail (Occupational health and safety awards). ÉTS is among seven organizations – four companies and three public bodies – that were recognized for their achievements in the Innovation category. The awards were presented at the Palais des congrès.

This award comes after ÉTS created a committee to oversee the safety and proper operation of the GREPCI (Power Electronics and Industrial Control Research Group) laboratory. The committee implemented a procedure for securing the machines in the lab.

In addition to reconfiguring the space and getting rid of clutter, the committee also installed boxes equipped with an interlocking device and lockable power supply panels at each workstation. Moreover, any individual who wishes to gain access to the laboratory must successfully complete an evaluation process after becoming familiar with the lab’s safe operating procedures. This project has led to the integration of workplace accident prevention into all of the lab’s activities.

Grands Prix santé et sécurité du travail

The Grands Prix santé et sécurité du travail are organized annually by the CNESST for each region of Québec. They are intended to recognize initiatives and projects undertaken by employers and workers with a view to preventing workplace accidents and occupational diseases.

The award winners from the Montréal region are automatically entered in the running for the Grands Prix santé et sécurité du travail National Gala, which will be held in the spring of 2018.

The CNESST is the agency that the Québec government has entrusted with upholding labour-related rights and obligations. It ensures that workers and employers in Québec are treated with respect.
