Sylvain Cloutier elected a Fellow of the College of the Royal Canadian Society

Sylvain Cloutier, Dean of Research and Holder of the Canada Research Chair in Hybrid Optoelectronic Materials and Devices at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), was elected to the inaugural class of Fellows of the College of the Royal Society of Canada on November 21.

He joins 90 other Fellows selected by 51 Canadian universities and the National Research Council Canada for their intellectual, scientific or artistic excellence.

Together, the Fellows of the College will address issues of major importance to the new intellectual, art, and science members in an effort to advance knowledge and enrich society while benefiting from the interdisciplinary approaches fostered by the College.

“The appointment of Sylvain Cloutier to the College of the Royal Society of Canada demonstrates that ÉTS is home to some of Canada’s leading professors and scientists,” states Pierre Dumouchel, Director General of ÉTS.

Invitation to the Commonwealth Science Conference

Sylvain Cloutier has been selected by the Royal Society of Canada to take part in the Commonwealth Science Conference, which will be held in Bangalore, India, from November 25 to 28, 2014. The conference, jointly organized by the Royal Society and the Government of India, will bring together 300 guests and 70 hand-picked PhD students representing 30 Commonwealth nations. This is the first conference held by the Royal Societies of the Commonwealth in 50 years.

The conference is designed to showcase outstanding science from across the Commonwealth, create opportunities for networking among researchers from different countries, inspire young scientists, and strengthen science capability in developing countries. The conference will address wide-ranging topics, including physical and life sciences, mathematics, engineering, and science policies.
