  • Hot mix asphalt design:
    • Improvement of granular stacking in asphalt mixes in order to optimize stone-to-stone contact, resulting in a low-bitumen asphalt mix and a high rutting resistance product.
     
  • Warm and semi-warm asphalt mix design:
    • Evaluation of various warm and semi-warm asphalt mix production techniques in order to identify optimal formulations and evaluate the short- and long-term impact of certain additives on asphalt mixes.
     
  • Cold asphalt mixes designs:
    • Optimization of mix design methods and of work to develop characterization tests in the laboratory that is comparable with field conditions.
 
  • Rheological characterization of bituminous materials:
    • Evaluation of complex modulus and of fatigue using uniaxial tension-compression tests. Characterization testing of the resistance of bituminous materials to permanent deformation and of resistance to reflective cracking.
     
  • Modeling of rheological characterization of bituminous materials:
    • Use of existing rheological models, such as the 2S2P1D, and adaptation of the latter to the intrinsic characteristics of materials measured in the laboratory.
 
  • Mechanistic-empirical design of flexible pavements:
    • Adaptation of mechanistic-empirical flexible pavement design methods to Québec's environmental conditions and to road traffic;
    • Adaptation of mechanistic-empirical flexible pavement design methods as a tool for maintenance and rehabilitation maintenance schedule.
 
  • Non-destructive evaluation of pavements:
    • Evaluation of the possibility of using non-destructive tools, such as falling-weight deflectometers, to evaluate certain pavement characteristics.
 
  • Non-destructive evaluation of pavement subgrade soils:
    • Use of a falling-weight deflectometer.
 
  • Formulation and characterization of cold recycled bituminous materials:
    • Improvement of formulation and evaluation of the short-, medium- and long-term behavior of foamed bitumen and bitumen emulsion treated material.
 
  • Use of recycled materials in asphalt mixes:
    • Evaluation of the impact of adding recycled asphalt and recycled asphalt shingles to asphalt mixes
