Research Laboratory in Active Controls, Avionics and Aeroservoelasticity

Toward greener and more intelligent aviation

The Research Laboratory in Active Controls, Avionics and Aeroservoelasticity (LARCASE) is a multidisciplinary research group that focuses on the fields of aeroservoelasticity (aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, aeroelasticity and aircraft controls) and the modeling and simulation of airplanes and helicopters.

The models are validated through the use of experimental data collected on the ground (in wind tunnels) or in flight, using information provided by aeronautical companies working in collaboration with our Lab.

LARCASE provides an opportunity for students to put their knowledge into practice within the context of real-world projects executed in partnership with renowned companies.

Inventing the aircraft of the future

— Ruxandra Mihaela Botez, Founder and Head of LARCASE

Ruxandra Mihaela Botez is the Director of LARCASE, which she founded in 2003, and a Professor in the Systems Engineering Department at ÉTS. She has held the Canada Research Chair in Aircraft Modeling and Simulation Technologies since 2011. Dr. Botez is a world-class Researcher who holds numerous titles and distinctions: Editor-in-Chief of the INCAS Bulletin; Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) in the United Kingdom, the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI), the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM); and Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Her main areas of research include optimization of flight trajectories through the use of flight management systems. She has made major contributions in the areas of design, modeling and simulation of aircraft, helicopters and autonomous flight systems, along with validation using experimental data from wind tunnel and flight testing.
