This CRD project aims at déveloping a software to help architects with real-time LCA simulations of their early building

designs.
This requires an export from their BIM model (something similair to Tally) but will be open source. The research

team is trying to develop a novel approach that will extend the global energy calculations of traditional construction

components

             WHAT WE ARE DOING    




 
 

With the help of partners: Reasearch group in sustainable construction and integrated building (GRIDD), International

Reference Centre for the Life Cycle of products, processes and Services (
CIRAIG), Desjardins Bank, Pomerleau, Giga,

Cecobois, Canadian Wood Council, Laval University and Hydro-Québec
 we are elaborating the requirements of the

software and have developed a vision document and are now working on the System requirements Specifications (SRS).

               CHALLENGES   

 
 

Dévelop an open source software that interfaces with Revit (a popular BIM software) including the functionality to use an

energetic material data base to asses, in real-time, the LCA values of a given construction project. This would allow the

architects to simulate the energy life-cycle (and the impact), of different available material during their design options.

             WHAT WE HAVE DONE   

 
 

We are following the software engineering process using a UI prototype, a vision document and an SRS to understand

the users requirements in detail. The solution will be composed of an innovative format to transfer Revit data to a Cloud

(Amazon high computational node) back-end parallel processing platform to do this calculation (Fourrier Transforms and

uncertainty calculation) very quickly so that architects can use it to simulate the LCA impact of their designs. LCI

calculations were validated by the Polytechnique Lab in June 2017. We are now veryfying the uncertainty results.
