Production of a selection guide for protective gloves against mechanical stressors.

Because Quebec and Canadian regulations, unlike European law, stipulate no obligations with respect to protective glove marking, a tool has been created to assist users select gloves.

This guide is available online on the IRSST Web site (http://www.irsst.qc.ca/gants/en/index.html), and includes a general information document on gloves as well as an interactive selection tool. The first version of the tool provides puncture, cutting and tearing resistance values for a list of about 50 glove models selected jointly with representatives of professional groups presenting the highest rates of hand injuries. With the contribution of manufacturers, additional glove models will be added in the future.

Incidentally, the system was designed to allow the subsequent addition of other properties, such as resistance to medical needle puncture, flexibility and adherence, into the database. The work was carried out in collaboration with members of the IRSST Protective Equipment division research team.
